Once I Like It, Now I Don’t!

From my observation, Shafiq had shown some reversal habits that make me wonder the underlying reason behind them. First of all, he dislikes watching previously his most favourite VCD - Old McDonald of B*by E**st**n series. It was his 1st collection of VCD and he’d been watching it since he was 3 months old (sorry for repeating the same phrase – to emphasize). But now, he’ll start crying not even half of the story been played! I’m not sure whether he’s scared of the character (Old Mc Donald has a lot of animals in his farm, you know it!) or the music. I don’t think it’s the all-time-famous Old McDonald Song because he will smile happily when he heard the song from other sources, including myself (I know, I know, I’m not good at singing, but it makes Shafiq fascinated enough). However, I’m very sure that he is afraid of Joey the kangaroo who jump all the way to planet Jupiter from Oz (of course) chasing after the musical jumping beans. Oh yes, this scene is from his (currently) most favourite VCD story of L*tt** E**st**N series entitled Rocket’s Firebird Rescue. Again, he’ll be terrified & start crying, while hiding behind his abah or me. The funny thing is he still has the courage to peep at the VCD player from behind us!

Ever wonder why Shafiq’s CRYING is a big issue here? Well IT IS INDEED A BIG ISSUE because he is hardly ever cry even whenever he is in great pain, e.g. when given his routine injection or when he bumped on the kitchen door with a loud bang! Yeah, he’s a pain proof tot, I guess…

Last but not least, I remember how he used to refuse whenever somebody tries to grasp his hand when walking or taking stroll so that he won’t fall. What happen lately was (and still on going) he would be the one who take hold of my hand and ask to accompany him to bed (so that he can lay down comfortably while enjoying his bottle of juice or milk). Given the above opposite habits of Shafiq, I wonder what is happening to him from children psychological point of view. Will this affect his IQ & EQ development negatively?

My Latest Skills

Everybody knows that Shafiq is very good at spinning things esp. toys (including himself!). I’m not sure where or when he learnt to master the skill, it juz happens. Besides spinning things, he enjoys watching (educational, of course) VCD very much since he was 3 months old. Recently we bought him B***ny B*by VCD set, one of it entitled Pee-Ka-Boo which he’ll watch again and again… I love to play Pee-Ka-Boo with him too but his Achik Salwa who’d always spend time to play the game with him back in Malaysia. During that time Shafiq would only be the passive participant – laughing happily to his Achik’s funny acts. But to my great surprise, now he was the one who will be Pee-Ka-Booing at me using his bath towel & abah’s car sunshade!!! Wow, this is amazing (even though he’ll fell awkward doing Pee-Ka-Boo using his own hands, who cares, as long he understands the basic concept, right?)

Apart from the above mentioned skill, Shafiq also knows how to clap hands. Every now and then he’ll clap hands to celebrate his victory of doing dangerous actions such as climbing stool, bed, chair and bookshelves. Sigh!!! He’ll clap hands when he listens to his favourite music. There were couples of time that he ‘miss’ the clap (the right and left hand don’t actually touch each other, hence doesn’t produce the clapping sound).

I’m not sure about this one, is it a skill or what… He’s good at observing, not counting, though (or shall I say monitoring???) the jackets & keys hanging at their place. He knows that when there are missing jacket and (car or house) keys, he soon understand that somebody is leaving the house WITHOUT HIM!!! How could they do that to me??? Don’t they know how bored I am being ‘locked’ in the house all the time??? (he might think so).
